Author Beth A. Leonard, was our first contributor. Beth's critically acclaimed book; The Voyager's Handbook, The Essential Guide to Bluewater Cruising, should be on the reading list for anyone considering offshore sailing. It is a gem! In addition, Beth has also written Blue Horizons, the winner of the Outdoor Literature category of the 2007 National Outdoor Book Awards, and Following Seas chronicling their first three-year tropical circumnavigation.

Cruiser Lawrence (Laurie) Pane sailed around the world with his wife, Carole Wells, and young son, Ryan, taking six-and-a-half years, traveling more than 40,000 miles and visiting 56 countries. He co-authored with them the very successful Chasing Sunsets, a practicing devout cowards circumnavigation with this wife and son. Laurie's second book, Steering You Straight makes a wonderful reference book for those who are interested in cruising. (We have read them both and thoroughly enjoyed the perspective Carole and Ryan added to "dad's view.)  Laurie brings us two great lessons from his book, Chasing Sunsets.

Scott Welty is one part maritime MacGyver, and two parts Mister Wizard ( or should it be Captain Wizard? ) His book, The Why Book of Sailing: The Curious Sailor's Guide to the Science of Sailing and Seamanship and his columns in a number of sailing publications blend fun with understanding of "why" and "how" things work on a sail boat. Scott has taught high school and college physics for over a 30 years, including a 4 year stint at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. When Scott and his wife aren't filling the cruising kitty, they sail the "Enee Maire", an Endeavor 42.
