July 2009
Ahoy! What a great month!

Our goal was a simple one: Create a media rich educational resource for the new sailor.  From the feedback we have been receiving, we hit the mark!

This month we have expanded our learning center and now offer a broad spectrum of no-cost training tools.

Ashoreschool.com's FREE interactive sailing lessons, designed for the beginner is now better than ever.  These lessons are structured in a vocabulary-building format, advancing step-by-step over seven sections. Packed with nearly 600 illustrations, these lessons will maximize your school's instructor lead classes. The lessons do not contain ads, require passwords or collect email addresses.

Our popular
"Points of Sail" lesson is clearly unique in its approach; and beginning this month is available as a stand-alone page you can add to your website. This lesson clearly illustrates not only the Point of Sail and the Mainsail position; it also includes the tack, the wind angle, and the masthead wind vane direction.

The
"Sea & Say for New Sailors" section will build your student's confidence.  With four dozen images of hardware, deck, and cockpit items, this interactive training tool is unsurpassed in its simplicity and user friendliness.

We just added five
Day Sail checklists that can be viewed for FREE on-line or with an iPhone (or any other Web - Enabled - Device from Verizon, Sprint, or AT&T's G3 network.) Checklists include Personal Gear, Safety and Legal, House Systems, Machinery, and Preparing Sails and Lines.

Ashoreschool.com now has two sailing simulators; NED presented through our special partnership with Nautic
Ed, and the original Volvo Sailing Simulator that has been used by thousands of new and experienced sailors to sharpen their skills.

At the request of several students, we just added an excellent nautical glossary, courtesy of our friends at Nautic
Ed.

Web video and Flash animation will be the future of training, and we have searched the internet for the best videos and knot-tying websites available. We start this section with an excellent video covering the 8 basic sailing knots your students will need to know, and continue with two specialty videos; the Bowline and Figure 8 knots, plus Grog's animated boating knots.

We hope you agree we are doing our best to support your efforts. Feel free to link your website to any of our pages. We are here to advance the sport of sailing.

Please give us your feedback. Do you like the site? What can we do to improve it?

Interested in contributing? We are looking for instructors interested in writing fun training articles.
